OUR MISSION

Our Mission at TIGA: Taos Institute for Glass Arts is to expand the understanding and appreciation for the Contemporary Glass Art Movement through classes & workshops, lectures, demonstrations, special events and exhibitions. TIGA serves and integrates the needs of artists, students, collectors, architects and designers.

TIGA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible.

TIGA works in hand-in-hand with other organizations to bring enrichment to our community through art experiences and art education, thus promoting cultural tourism and green-friendly industry. These relationships empower us all. Glass Alliance - New Mexico, Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass, Taos County Chamber of Commerce, Taos Gallery Association, Taos Bed & Breakfast Association, and the Taos County Economic Development Corporation are a few of the fine organizations we partner with throughout the year.

WALKING ON GLASS AND THE TAOS ART GLASS INVITATIONAL
Each summer, TIGA sponsors and produces the Walking On Glass Tour and the Taos Art Glass Invitational. This exceptional biannual event brings the best in studio art glass to Taos, New Mexico to celebrate contemporary art in one of the oldest and most notable art colonies in this country. The marriage of the old and new in art make Taos the perfect location for this prominent exhibition. Lasting four plus weeks under the legendary and luminescent New Mexico skies and amidst the enchanted backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Walking On Glass Tour features a succulent offering: juried exhibitions in multiple Taos galleries, the premier juried Taos Art Glass Invitational, workshops with prominent artists, free lectures, demonstrations and artist receptions, studio tours, low-cost glass experiences, and collaborative artist opportunities.

TIGA IN ART & ARCHITECTURE

TIGA promotes the use of glass not only in private and personal art, but art-glass as a medium in the community experience through use in public spaces and incorporation in architecture. TIGA is geared up to meet the demands of supplying to the artist the tools necessary to create larger scale works outside their own personal studios. This eliminates the need for each artist to invest in substantial or large-scale equipment to be able to meet the demands of this new and growing artistic industry. TIGA also provides the platform for connecting artists with the ability to work in these areas of expertise with architects and contractors.
